Unicorn Party Activities
Aim to have a mix of active and calmer games. Here are some ideas… you can do most of them using items you already have around the house.
ACTIVE PARTY GAMES:
Balloon Race: Line the children up in two lines with a balloon for each line. Have a relay race keeping a balloon up in the air the whole time! Make this more difficult for older children by saying they can only use their elbows!
Unicorn, Unicorn, Donkey: Play a variation on Duck, Duck, Goose!
Piñata: These are available to buy on amazon and come in unicorn shape. Simply fill with sweets and treats such as stickers, tattoos etc and confetti or torn up tissue paper. Then hang the piñata up and let the children whack it with a soft bat or pull the strings to break into the treats!
Suck up the Sweeties: The children suck up smarties or jelly beans from bowls with a straw, dropping as many as they can into their cups in a minute! You can assign point values to different colours if you like.
The Doughnut Eating Game: string some doughnuts on a string and see who can be first to eat their doughnut with hands held behind their backs!
Pass the Balloon: Line children up in two lines and race to pass the balloon along the line, first over the head and then through the legs!
Flour Mountain: fill a pudding bowl with flour and then turn over to create a flour mountain. Place a jelly baby on top and children take turns to remove a spoonful of flour without toppling the jelly baby. The one who knocks the jelly baby off must eat it with hands behind their back and gets a face full of flour! Top tip: watch out for children getting flour in their eyes and tidy up quickly or it might descend into a flour fight!
QUIET PARTY GAMES
Hot Unicorn Poo!: This is a variation on Hot Potato. Find an object to be the Hot Unicorn Poo (scrunched up tin foil will do.) Children pass it quickly around a circle while music is playing. When the music, stops the child who is holding the Unicorn Poo is out!
Rainbow Slime: Try this borax free slime recipe from delicate construction
Sleeping Unicorns: This is a variation on Sleeping Lions. The children must lie down and not move or make a sound. Anyone who does is out. (This is a good one if you want to calm them down!)
Guess the Sweeties in the Jar: to win the jar of sweeties!
Decorate Unicorn Biscuits: messy but fun and they can take home their creations.
Pass the Parcel: an old favourite! Kit & Caboodle have handmade unicorn horn pass the parcels and to save you the hassle of wrapping your own
Unicorn Party Decorations and Set Up
Use fabrics, cushions and fairy lights to create a magical scene. Balloons filled with helium or threaded in a banner and some scattered on the floor will also create wow factor. Giant and tiny balloons are also a lot of fun. You can scatter confetti on the party table if you have it.
Make your life easy on Party day by doing as much set up as possible the day before. Sort any food that can be done in advance. If you’re not using helium, inflate your balloons the night before.
