Throw a MARVELous Superhero Party!
Every child has a superhero inside of them. Unleash the superpowers in yours with a cool and modern Superhero party to remember!
SUPERHERO PARTY FOOD:
Super Stars: star-shaped biscuit cutters will transform sandwiches, watermelon slices and biscuits into something special. Push wooden lolly sticks into fat watermelon stars for fun fruity pops.
Kryptonite Jelly: serve small cups of green jelly.
Superpower Fuel: label chunks of fruits and veggies to show what superpowers they give the lucky kids who eat them. Try carrots for super vision, raw broccoli florets for super strong bones, oranges or cantaloupe for super germ fighters, grapes for super speed and blueberries for super memory. Dr. Sears has a helpful list of nutrients in fruits here.
Oreo Tower: stack a pile of black and white Oreos to coordinate with your party colours. Use a jam jar or can in the centre for stability.
Star Cupcakes: use K&C’s free printable glitter star cupcake toppers.
Nibbles: hummus and pitta fingers, crisps and dip, popcorn and biscuits will fill them up.
Kryptonite Juice: Serve green juice (a kiwi blend or add a bit of food colouring to cloudy lemonade) in a large drink dispenser with a label.
The Cake: Kit & Caboodle have a glittery Star Cake Decorating Kit for a shortcut to a party cake the kids will love.
SUPERHERO PARTY ACTIVITIES
Aim to have a mix of active and calmer games. Here are some ideas… you can do most of them using items you already have around the house.
Active Party Games:
Super Powers World Championships: Line the children up and see who can jump the farthest, run the fastest and spin the longest. Add as many events as you have time for. Award prizes to the champions of each event.
Capture the Villain: Children chase a cooperative adult until they catch him/her. The children then “tie up” the villain with toilet roll or colourful tissue streamers.
Brick Wall Punch: Hide treats in a “brick wall” that you make yourself. The children use their super strength to punch through the wall and find their prizes. This tutorial will show you how to make your wall.
Pass the Kryptonite: Played like hot potato. Scrunch up a piece of green paper or delight the kids by using green “Kryptonite” glowsticks. Players sit in a circle and pass the Kryptonite while the music plays. The child holding the Kryptonite when the music stops is out. Play continues until one child is left.
Kryptonite Toss: Another game that can be played with scrunched up balls of green paper. The children divide into teams and compete to throw the most balls of kryptonite into a bucket placed across the room.
Stolen Party Bags: Towards the end of the party tell the children that the baddies have stolen their gift bags. Give them the first of a series of clues to follow to track down their missing treats.
Quieter Party Activities:
Giant Brick Building Blocks: wrap an assortment of boxes in brick wallpaper or plastic party backdrop. The children can build their own skyscrapers and tunnels with the giant blocks.
Superhero Photoshoot: draw a simple city skyline with chalk on the pavement or with pen on a large piece of fabric. Take photos of the children “flying” through the air as they pose laying on the backdrop. Send copies of the photos to each child with their thank you notes.
Water Beads: these are fun, little beads that expand in water and grow into squishy balls that children love. Hide small toys or wrapped sweets in the beads for the children to find. Glow sticks make brilliant Kryptonite sticks to hide for your little superheroes. Find out more about water beads here.
Superhero Mask Salon: Set up a small area with a table and two chairs (one for you and one for your “client”) and use it to transform the kids into proper superheroes. Using face paint, draw on simple masks. Look out for the glittery versions for extra special results.
X-Ray Vision: Hide a variety of household objects in covered bowls or boxes. Each child is blindfolded in turn and tries to guess the objects using only their x-ray vision and their hands to feel inside the containers.
Pass the Parcel: an old favourite! Kit & Caboodle have handmade themed and coloured pass the parcels to save you the hassle of wrapping your own.
SUPERHERO PARTY DECORATIONS AND SET UP
Silver, turquoise and black set the scene for a cool and modern Superhero Party. Play with scale by using a mix of balloons in different sizes, from the tiny 5-inch versions to the massive child-sized metre tall balloons. Fill some with helium and scatter the rest around the party area. Inflate any non-helium balloons the night before to save time on party day, and do as much food prep as possible ahead of time.
