Throw a TropiCOOL Party!
If your kids love the beach, sunshine colours and all things Hawaiian then throw the ultimate Tropical party this Summer!
TROPICAL PARTY FOOD:
Tropical Shapes: cut your sandwiches, biscuits or fruit (like melon) with palm tree, pineapple or flamingo biscuit cutters.
Hawaiian Pizzas: Offer ham and pineapple Hawaiin pizzas.
Sunshine Food: have a fruit salad of red, yellow and orange tropical fruit like watermelon, strawberries, mango, oranges, pinepple etc. Serve veg in similar colours like peppers, sweetcorn, tomatoes and carrots.
Non-alcoholic Cocktails: made with tropical fruit juice cocktails and served with cocktail umbrellas.
Tropical Cupcakes: use K&C’s free printable cupcake toppers.
Fruity Jelly: put fruit jelly sweets in mini pots of jelly!
Veggie or Fruit Skewers: skewered peppers, olives, tomatoes, topped with cucumber in the shape of a star makes veg look appetising. Or try berries finished with a watermelon star.
Nibbles: crisps and dip, biscuits and popcorn will fill them up. Pink wafer or coconut ring biscuits tie nicely into the theme.
Fruit Rainbow: Red: strawberries, raspberries or watermelon, Orange: orange segments or melon, Yellow: pineapple or mango, Green: grape, melon or kiwi, Blue: blueberries, Violet: purple grape
The Cake: Kit & Caboodle have a Happy Cake Decorating Kit to make decorating the cake a breeze.
TROPICAL PARTY ACTIVITIES
Aim to have a mix of active and calmer games. Here are some ideas… you can do most of them using items you already have around the house.
Active Party Games:
Volleyball: make a net with chairs and have a game of volleyball with a balloon!
Race the Sun: children line up in two teams and have an orange or yellow balloon for each line. The children race to pass the sun balloon down their line, keeping it in the air! (Make it harder for older kids by only allowing them to use their elbows!) If the balloon goes on the floor it has to go back to the start. The team who finishes first wins.
Coconut Roll: Children roll a coconut each and see whose goes the furthest. Alternative use the coconuts to knock down bottles weighted with water.
Pass the Balloon: Children line up in two teams with a balloon for each line. They race to pass the balloon along the line, first over their heads and then through their legs! The team who finishes first wins.
Water Fight: Have a water fight with water pistols and water balloons (if it is warm enough!) Or have an egg and spoon race with water balloons!
Suck up the Sweetie: Put some tropical jelly beans in bowls for each of the kids to suck with a straw and drop as many as they can in their cups. Give them a time limit or assign point values to different colours if you like.
Tropical Piñata: These are available to buy on amazon and come in a variety of designs such as watermelon and flamingo. Simply fill with sweets and treats such as stickers, tattoos etc and confetti or torn up tissue paper. Then hang the piñata up and let the children whack it with a soft bat to break into the treats!
The Doughnut Eating Game: string some doughnuts on a string and see who can be first to eat their doughnut with hands held behind backs!
Quieter Party Games:
Pass the Flamingo: Like hot potato but pass your inflatable flamingo around the circle and the one holding the flamingo when the music stops is out!
Pass the Orange: sit in a circle and pass the orange around under the chin or with the feet! There is a forfeit for the one that drops the orange! Or an alternative way to play is have two teams and race to see who can get their orange around the circle first!
Guess the Sweeties in the Jar: to win the jar of sweeties!
Decorate Tropical Shaped Biscuits: messy but fun and they can take home their creations.
Pass the Parcel: an old favourite! Kit & Caboodle have handmade themed and coloured pass the parcels to save you the hassle of wrapping your own
TROPICAL PARTY DECORATIONS AND SET UP
Balloons in vibrant colours filled with helium or scattered on the floor will create wow factor. Giant and tiny balloons are also a lot of fun. Paper honeycomb decorations come in a variety or shapes and colours and are a lovely way to add colour. You can scatter confetti on the party table if you have it.
Make your life easy on Party day by doing as much set up as possible the day before. Sort any food that can be done in advance. Inflate your balloons the night before (unless you are using helium).
